Agentic AI in Banking Customer Analytics and Service
Banks can use bounded agents to assemble customer evidence and coordinate service work, but financial authority, eligibility, privacy and adverse decisions require strong controls.
Choose a service decision, not autonomous banking
Useful starting points include preparing a service case, investigating a failed onboarding step, assembling renewal evidence or coordinating an approved complaint response. Broad goals such as manage the customer relationship create unclear authority and untestable behaviour.
Separate analytics, advice and authority
A model may predict need or risk. A generative system may explain evidence. An agent may call approved tools. None should silently acquire authority to change eligibility, price, credit, account access or regulatory treatment. Define the human and policy boundary for each action.
Use case: digital onboarding exception
An agent can reconstruct the application journey, identify missing or conflicting evidence, retrieve approved guidance and prepare the next step. It can route the case to a person when identity, financial-crime or eligibility judgement is required.
Use case: complaint investigation
The system can assemble interactions, payments, service commitments and earlier remedies, then propose a chronology and policy-grounded options. The complaint owner should see sources, uncertainty and any conflicting record before approving a response.
Evaluate fairness, security and recovery
Test across customer groups, languages, channels and difficult cases. Measure unsupported tool use, privacy exposure, failure to escalate, customer outcome and downstream correction. Simulate unavailable systems and misleading instructions from retrieved content.
Monitor the customer and regulatory outcome
Track completion, resolution, repeat contact, complaint, override and harmful difference. Retain logs appropriate to accountability while minimising personal data. Review changes to policy, products and source systems before updating the agent.
