Model Inventory and Reliance Review
Financial institutions use models to price products, assess credit, detect fraud, value assets, estimate capital and guide many other decisions. However, an inventory that lists model names and owners does not show how strongly the institution relies on each output or what happens when that output is wrong.
Marketways traces each material model into the decision and workflow it influences. The review combines inventory completeness, technical validation, operational use, human control and changing portfolio conditions to determine where continued reliance is justified.
Discover models through material decisions
Teams may describe a system as a score, rule, calculator, spreadsheet, vendor service or reporting tool rather than a model. The label does not determine whether its output influences a material decision.
Marketways begins with decisions such as approval, pricing, provisioning, escalation and portfolio management. We trace the calculations, data transformations and AI systems that shape each outcome.
This process finds material tools that a definition-led inventory can miss. It also prevents the register from filling with harmless calculations that receive the same attention as systems that affect customers, capital or financial exposure.
Record how the business uses each model
A model record requires more than a name and technical owner. Management needs to know the intended purpose, users, inputs, outputs, decision threshold, human review and action that follows.
Marketways documents the workflow beside the model. The record identifies where employees can override the output, how cases proceed when the model is unavailable and which downstream systems reuse the result.
The inventory therefore represents reliance rather than possession. It shows which business decisions would change, stop or continue incorrectly if the model failed.
Classify materiality through consequence and reliance
A simple rule can be material when it controls payment or access at scale. Conversely, a sophisticated model may be less material when an experienced specialist uses it as one limited source of evidence.
Marketways assesses the consequence of error, exposure, degree of automation, customer effect and ability to detect and correct failure. We also consider whether several low-impact uses create material aggregate reliance.
The classification determines validation depth, monitoring and review frequency. It does not exempt a low-ranked system from ownership, documentation or basic control.
Establish lineage from source data to business action
Model performance depends on the data and transformations that produce its inputs. A technically unchanged model can behave differently after a source field, coding practice, customer population or upstream system changes.
Marketways maps critical input lineage, preprocessing, versions and downstream consumption. We identify manual adjustments and interfaces where meaning can change without an obvious model release.
This lineage allows an incident team to determine which decisions were affected. It also enables monitoring to respond to a relevant data change before model performance deteriorates silently.
Test validation against the actual use case
A model may perform well on its validation sample and still be unreliable in production. Users may apply it outside its intended scope, workflow pressure may weaken review or portfolio conditions may change.
Marketways examines discrimination, calibration, stability and error by relevant segment. We then test thresholds, overrides and failure cases within the decision process that uses the output.
Technical performance remains necessary, but it is not sufficient. Reliance depends on whether the complete operating arrangement produces defensible decisions under current conditions.
Interpret overrides as evidence about reliance
An override is neither automatically a control success nor proof that the model failed. A high rate may reflect an unsuitable threshold, missing information, poor training, policy pressure or valuable expert judgement.
Marketways separates override reasons and compares subsequent outcomes. We identify whether particular teams, segments or conditions create consistent disagreement.
The evidence may support model remediation, revised guidance, stronger review or greater reliance. Counting overrides without explaining them cannot determine the correct response.
Review vendor models within the institution's workflow
A vendor may provide performance evidence, documentation and operating commitments. Nevertheless, those assurances do not show how the system behaves with the institution's data, thresholds, customers and surrounding controls.
Marketways maps vendor evidence to the intended use and identifies what remains untested. The review may include representative cases, unavailable dependencies, data exchanged, update terms and the institution's ability to restrict or stop use.
Accountability remains with the institution. Limited visibility should reduce the permitted reliance or require compensating controls rather than become an excuse to omit review.
Inventory agentic systems below the application name
One Agentic AI application may contain several models, prompts, retrieval sources, tools, memory stores and decision rules. Recording only the application hides the components that can change behaviour or create side effects.
Marketways records which component performs each function, which permissions it holds and which version operated in a case. We map human approval points and the actions that the workflow may execute.
Evaluation covers the complete trajectory as well as individual model outputs. A sound answer does not establish dependable use if the agent selects the wrong tool, retrieves unsuitable evidence or acts outside its authority.
Monitor the conditions that justify continued use
Model reliance is approved under stated data, portfolio, policy and operating conditions. A control that waits for annual review may respond too slowly when one of those conditions changes.
Marketways defines monitoring for input shifts, calibration, segment performance, overrides, incidents and unavailable dependencies. We connect each measure with an investigation, restriction or revalidation trigger.
Monitoring then protects a reliance decision rather than generating a dashboard. Management can see which change requires action and who owns the response.
Convert findings into a controlled-use decision
A complete inventory is an administrative record until management decides how each material system may be used. The decision should state the approved scope, required review, unresolved limitations and events that trigger restriction or suspension.
Marketways supports a clear disposition for each material model. Management may accept current use, remediate a weakness, restrict scope, revalidate, replace or retire the system.
The decision remains traceable to evidence and accountable owners. Marketways provides independent technical and management assurance, while the institution retains its legal, regulatory and certification responsibilities.
A credit-decision model illustrates reliance risk
Suppose a lender's model retains strong discrimination after a portfolio change. A technical review may therefore recommend continued use.
The reliance review may reveal weaker calibration in a growing customer segment, frequent overrides by one team and a downstream pricing rule that assumes the score means something different. Those findings affect actual decisions even though the headline validation metric remains strong.
Management may recalibrate the model, restrict its use for the affected segment and correct the downstream rule before restoring full reliance. The inventory creates value because it connects validation with business action.
How Marketways conducts the reliance review
Marketways discovers models through the decisions they influence and builds a traceable inventory of purpose, data, components, owners and controls. We assess materiality, validation, overrides, operational use, incidents and changing conditions before supporting a controlled-use decision.
The engagement may combine AI Governance and Model Risk, Decision Assurance and Model Evaluation and Validation. Management receives an actionable inventory, reliance classifications, unresolved findings, review triggers and dispositions for material systems.
